Often when I head out for some photography, I have thoughts about what I want to shoot and what images I wish to make. Equally as often my plans change.
Earlier this month, Susan and I took a few days to explore the coast around Fort Bragg California. It goes without saying that we were looking to explore the rugged coastal scenery, blue waters and crashing waves. And, we got some.
But it wasn’t the ocean or crashing waves that stole the show for me. Rather, It was the birds. I had to change my plans, break out the long lens. This is not too surprising as I often find myself on the beach chasing shore birds. However, in this case, it was sparrows and Marsh Wren that drew my attention. I settled into the grass and flowers and had a heyday.
A Song Sparrow, standing tall.
And singing among the flowers.
And calling from stems of last year.
The yellow eyebrow of a Savannah Sparrow fits well with it’s yellow perch.
And, while the sparrows were fun, it was the Marsh Wren that had me enthralled. There are few birds that put more into their singing than the common Marsh Wren and their spirit is contagious.
I hope these images can bring a small piece of the joy I felt making them and listening to the birds sing.
I love that first one, Steve. But, all are exceptional
Thank you Billy. They are great fun to photograph.
